Bringing School Home

  • At our preschool, we do not consider it developmentally appropriate for children to bring home "Homework" on a daily basis. However, it is very important that you are aware of the concepts that we are working on in our classroom for children to be able to practice at home. The concepts include:
    • Counting with accuracy and recognition while using numbers 1-10.
    • Recognizing all letters of the alphabet in both lower and upper case.
    • Developing awareness and understanding of measurement words/concepts such as more, less and descriptive texture concepts such as rough, smooth, scratchy, bumpy, soft.
    • Recognizing their own name in print.
    • Begining writing concepts such as proper grasp of writing utensils and tracing.
    • Recognizing and describing basic shapes.

Resources:

  • Here are a few websites we use in the classroom to practice these concepts that can easily be accessed from your home or local library. Click on the links below to explore the different sites!
    • Starfall
      • This website is designed to help develop and support your child's literacy skills. We frequent this site in class to learn more about letter awarness, sound association, and other basic pre-reading concepts.
    • PBS Kids
      • This is an interactive website that makes learning fun for children by incorporating their favorite shows on television with learning concepts! Your child can have a personal lesson with the Cat in the Hat or other favorite characters from PBS shows.
    • KidZone
      • On this website you will find worksheets and games that are available to help your child's math, literacy, and fine motor skills grow! It will also help with cognitive skills such as mastering color and shape concepts.
    • Funschool
      • There are many exciting and interactive games offered on this website that are educationally grounded. This site also offers craft resources for you to try at home that support some of the ideas we are learning about in preschool. A class favorite from this site is the "formula fusion" section....check this out to see your little scientist in action!
